Success of the ‘Saturday Supply Stations’

Recently, Valleys Underground have taken inspiration from a variety of local groups and attempted to provide a ‘Saturday supply station’ for the people of Merthyr.

Providing food, drink, sanitary supplies and a bit of a chat, we’ve know that many people across the Valleys, though they may not be out on the street, are still living payslip to payslip. Some are only ever one bad bill away from being out in the cold.

From tins of soup, to loaves of bread, to sandwiches, to coats and sleeping bags, to a full few trays of croissants and rock-cakes, we’ve been overwhelmed by the positive reaction of people in the Valleys, eager to help out in their community.

We’ve also been extremely humbled by the amount of people willing to give their Saturday morning to help us.  Some have traveled from places such as Cardiff and Caerphilly to help volunteer with us, and we are very grateful for their help.

We’ve also been aided by organizations such as the People’s Kitchen in Merthyr,  Plaid Cymru’s local branch here, as well as the help of the High Street Baptist Church and Cefyn Community Center in providing us a venue.

For those who have attended and enjoyed a coffee, some soup, and a chat, we hope it helped, even a little.

In the coming weeks, we aim to carry this activity on in Merthyr, but expand to other neighboring valleys communities – with particular interest in Caerphilly, Aberdare and Pontypridd in the near, near future.

So from all of us here at Valleys Underground, we thank you very much for the continued support, the people of Merthyr for being so generous, and we look forward to seeing you at a future event.
